GARDEN FENCE VALANCES/CORNICESAnother week has come and gone, bringing us that much closer to the holidays. Though the article this week is not about a wrap up kind of gift, it would certainly be a nice gift for yourself or someone very special. This is one of the cutest ideas we have discussed in a long time, and not only very inexpensive, but very simple as well. Start off by measuring your window and determining what size valance/cornice you will need. Now, go to any discount store, in the garden center, and pick up enough packages of plastic garden fencing. The packages normally sell for about $3.00 each. Prepare the panels by cutting off the two extra stakes, that normally go into the ground, a hack saw probably will work best. Cut them even with the rest. Now, let us say for the sake of explanation, that the panel is 24" and you need it to be 34". Just cut the amount needed off another panel and add it to the side. I secured mine with popsicle sticks, and hot glue on the back side. Next, add the side to the valance/cornice using small "L" brackets and hot glue, again to the back side. I like to make my sides about 6 or 7 inches, but that is entirely up to the look you desire. You have now completed the basic project. To secure them to the wall use the same type "L" brackets and hot glue, then using screws to secure them to the wall. Now, let us discuss your options for this project. You could simply spray paint them to match your decor, BUT as usual you do not have to stop there. You could weave silk ivy into the panels, add little birds, insects, etc. Let your imagination go and really enjoy your new windows. TIP: Is your stove looking listless, from all the scrubbing? Well, it seems like we have always had the choice of dirty or listless. Good News! Now you can have a clean stove that still looks shiny and new. Try polishing it with car polish. It will not only bring back the original shine, but it also helps the food and grease remove easier the next time. 'Til Next Week - Terri Landrum
