FAUX BURLED WOOD FINISH

Hello again! This week I want to expain a very simple technique for a faux finish that looks JUST like burled wood. You can use this technique on anything that will hold paint! I am going to give you the instructions using specific colors, though you certainly may change that to your own liking. You will need enough, deep rusty red for your base coat, glaze, brown paint, black paint and clear coat, plus paper towels. That is it! Step one is to paint on the base coat and let dry completely. Now for the faux finish coat. Mix one part glaze, one part brown paint and one part black paint. Brush the mixture over a section of your project and immediately, with a wadded and rolled bunch of paper towels, (about 5 or 6 inches long and at least as big around as an egg) start to roll and sort of stagger from side to side over the mixture. As the paper towel roll gets loaded with paint, blot it away, onto more towels and resume. This technique may take a little practice, but you will perfect it very soon. After you have completed the faux finish all over, let it dry completely, and top coat it with as many coats of clear as you choose. This is just another way to have beautiful things in your home for practically no money! Remember this technique can be used on anything from frames to furniture, which could even include you card board furniture. Do not over look anything! If it will hold paint, it is a prospect. So go to work, and remember to take your family out with the savings!

TIP: Hear are a couple of ironing tips that I think you will really enjoy. First, you can cut your ironing time in half by putting aluminum foil (shiny side up) under your ironing board cover. This will reflect the heat so that you will be ironing both sides at once. Next, when your iron is draggy, though it is clean, simply turn on the heat and iron over 3 or 4 pieces of waxed paper. Your iron will glide like a new one.
