FAUX LEATHER PAINTING TECHNIQUE

Hello everyone, this week I want to tell you about a faux painting technique that mimicks leather. Remember to use your imagination and create your own colors. This technique can be used on your walls, furniture, picture frames, bowls, boxes, etc. You could use craft paint or any other type of latex, for convenience, BUT, in special cases this technique will work with most any type of paint. You will need two or three different colors of paint, blending gel or glaze, some plastic wrap, and some type of clear coat. Apply the base coat and let it dry completely. Next, you should mix the top coat with some glaze (about 2 parts paint to 1 part glaze). For the best results, mix another seperate top coat and glaze, making it a couple of shades lighter or darker. Now apply the two different top coats, randomly. Immediately while it is still wet, with a wadded piece of plastic wrap, pat all over the surface to create that grain look. You can also stretch the wrap gathering it, to make elongated grain. After this has dried completely, coat it well with clear coat. Though we have just discussed the method for water based paints, as I said earlier, this can also be done with other types of paints, such as glass paints. When using glass paint it will be necessary to bake on the base coat, before apply the top coat, and you will not need to use glaze in the top coat, other than those changes, the rest is the same. So enjoy your new leather look painting technique. There are a lot of methods out there today, BUT, as you know by now, I would find the easiest and certainly the cheapest! Be sure to let me know if you find a really unique way to use this technique.

TIP: Every person out there knows to put an open box of baking soda in the refigerator to absorb odors, BUT, for those of you who did not know, you can use it in closets, tool sheds, drawers, etc. Have you ever known a kids closet that does not stink from old tennis shoes, etc? I know that I have never known one yet! Try this method it really works and only cost pennies.
