WOW! Another week, another great project! This week I want to teach you how to have those great animal prints on vases, frames, furniture, boxes, lamps, switchplate covers, etc. OOPS! I forgot to say, you can have this for pennies! As you well know, anything you buy with animal prints on it now, cost a small fortune. Our job is to eliminate that possibility! This technique is done with decoupage and animal print fabric. NOT the furry kind, just a simple cotton, or anything with a reasonably smooth surface will do nicely. Simply cut the fabric into small squares and decoupage it directly to the surface, then cover it with several coats of decoupage. Once that has dried completely coat it with clear polyurethane. You can use as many clear coats as you you choose. Now, back to the application; when decoupaging the fabric onto the surface, place it in random directions and overlap each piece. The size of the squares that you will be working with will be governed by the shape of the object, for instance a small round object will require much smaller pieces, to be managable. You will determine that by the shape of your object, the point is to make them small enough to be easy to handle. As usual, this is a great way to decorate with really cheap stuff! HA! The laugh is on the rest of the world, when you have finished this project I promise you will have a look that any designer would be proud to display. Remember, your only limitaions are your own imagination. You could do anything from the switchplate cover on your wall to the coffee table. SO, roll up your sleeves and redecorate! Then take your family out for a wonderful night with all that money you saved.
TIP: To repell moths in closets and drawers, FORGET those horrible smelling moth balls! Simply grate a bar of soap and tie it up in mesh fabric, for instant moth repellent. PLUS, your clothes will smell so much nicer. Any soap will work fine, so go for CHEAP and FRAGRANT!
