I hope you have your toilet tissue cardboard ready, like I told you last week. There are so many cute ideas to make easy, beautiful napkin rings, for virtually no money. Let your imagination go wild. The style we will discuss this week, is so simple and very attractive. Start by marking your roll in 4 equal sections. Each roll makes 4 napkin rings. Mark it several places around the roll. Next cut it down the side, so you can open it and cut across to make the indiviual rings. After cutting them out, put each ring back together with clear tape. Now, go out to your trees and cut a bunch of twigs. Yep, twigs from your trees! Make them as straight as possible, and any diameter you choose. I prefer them to be about half the size of a pencil. You will need a glue gun and some jute twine (or raffia) for this project. The jute twine can be purchased at any home improvement store in a spool, for less than a penny per foot. CHEAP! Now cut your twigs into 1 and 1/2 inch lengths.
OK, now we can put them together. Simply glue the twigs, centered on the ring, all the way around. When that is done glue two wraps of jute around the rings about 1/4 of an inch back from each end. You are finished! Was that the easiest craft ever? PLUS, they cost less than 2 cents each. Try to beat that at the Import Store!
There are so many other ideas for these napkin rings, and we will discuss all of them in future articles. For now, start to use your own imagination. You could cover them with fabric, decoupage them, glue beads to them, ETC. The ideas are almost endless. Next week we are going to discuss "book" shelves. That is little hanging shelves actually made from books. This idea is too cute! Please remember, I would love to answer your decorating or crafting question, or just hear your comments.
