The result was an incredible holiday topiary for very little money and just one afternoon's work. Nature Crafts -- Wondering what to do with all those pine cones laying in your backyard? Craft with them - the possibilities are endless. I've used pine cones for bird feeders (apply peanut butter, roll in bird seed and hang from a tree), for wreaths (glue them right onto a cardboard cutout, spray paint and attach a bow), and as a holiday centerpiece (pine cones and garland in a wooden bowl. Other Crafts -- I never thought of trying decoupage until I was in a very expensive home decorating store a day a few years ago. I found a wonderful treasure box that consisted of a wooden box with an antique-looking paint finish. It also had a gorgeous picture of an angel and a literary quote decoupaged on the top. The cost was a mere $100. On the way home (without the box) I stopped at the crafts store and purchased a box and decoupage glue. I found some Victorian-style postcards in a drawer, picked some paints from my large acrylic collection, and a couple of hours (and just a few bucks) later, I had a treasure box that looked almost as good as the one in the store. This box now holds my computer diskettes much more beautifully than a plastic, office supply store purchase ever could. If you like candles, there's lots of inexpensive ways to display candles in your home. This Christmas, I purchased wax, wicks and scents in bulk from a discount store, along with several small, glass candle holders. I whipped up my own batch of scented candle wax and poured it directly into the glasses, which I bought for $1 (or less) each. To dress up the gifts, I strung glass beads (from my favorite bead source, Mother Beads) on copper wire (from a hardware store) then wrapped the beaded wire around the glass holder.
