He's won Grammies, he's won Oscars...but is Bruce Springsteen destined to take home television's top prize?
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently announced the nominees for its prestigious Emmy awards - and our favorite New Jersey bar singer's name was on six of the lists! The HBO special created from the final days of the 1999-2000 reunion tour, "Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band", was nominated in the following categories:
Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special
Outstanding Directing For a Variety or Music Program
Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special
Outstanding Lighting Direction for VMC Programming
Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety or Music Series or Special
Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video for a Miniseries, Movie or Special
Of course, Bruce faces some hefty competition in these fields, including the Oscar telecast, Saturday Night Live and specials featuring Barbra Streisand and Elton John.
It's hard to imagine anyone beating Bruce in sound! The awards will be telecast on CBS September 16, so tune in and root for the reunion!
The "Big Man" himself, Clarence Clemons, will be recording a live album at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on September 1. Tickets go on sale August 1, so tap into TicketMaster and get your tickets. Who knows? Maybe we'll hear you on Clarence's
next recording.
Another E Streeter, Nils Lofgren, is scheduled to appear at the Pony on August 18. The concert will be held on the outdoor stage and begins at 4. Spend a summer afternoon with Nils and friends (his and yours!)
Superstar, and super asteriod? Now Bruce is both!
Ian Griffin, an astrologer and Springsteen admirer, discovered the asteriod in 1999 and officially registered it with the International Astronomical Club as "Springsteen". Guess we're not the only ones who see Bruce as a light in our galaxy.
