DVD News Are You Being Served? Official announcement After months of rumor and speculation we finally have the official release details on the eagerly awaited first round of Are You Being Served? discs. The first set collects the first five seasons of everyone's favorite camp department store comedy with the rest of the series to appear, sales willing, in the not too far future. Individual seasons will be sold as part of the set or separately but there seems to be a bonus disc for those who plonk for the big box. Included in the releases are the first 34 episodes, including the pilot, and a number of bonuses ranging from trailers and cast bios to a selection of short features on various cast members. While the releases don't seem to be overstuffed with extras, a cast commentary on at least one episode might have been fun, the supplements thus far mentioned all sound terrific. Assuming this one doesn't get badly botched by the producers, and the BBC have a spotless track record so far, this might well be the set of the year for britcom fans. Are You Being Served? The Classic Years Seasons 1-5 is slated for a August 27 release. Also seeing release August 27 is the complete BBC production of C.S Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia. DVD Reviews Are You Being Served? The Movie We still have a couple of months to wait for the first wave of Are You Being Served? The Series discs but Anchor Bay have stepped in to liven up our summer with their release of Are You Being Served? The Movie. As usual Anchor Bay, who also produced the excellent Doctor Who movies set, have provided a better than expected transfer of a relatively obscure film. Presented in it's original widescreen format, thank heavens, Are You Being Served? The Movie has absolutely never looked better. If you've caught the film on TV before you owe it to yourself to pick up this much improved presentation. The only extra is the film's original trailer. If you've never seen the film here's a brief review: Grace Bros. is being shut down for re-decoration and the entire store is going on holiday. In a plot based on one of the series episodes the Gentleman's and Ladies department are forced to take their vacation together and mild hilarity ensues when a coup threatens the resort they're staying at. Andrew Sachs (Manuel from Fawlty Towers) co-stars as the hotel manager and the Grace Bros. staff on view is the classic lineup known and loved throughout the world. Go To Page: 1 2
