A bit of old news to start things off....

The TV Baftas were awarded a couple of weeks ago and the winners were:

  • Soap - EastEnders
  • Comedy Programme or Series - The Sketch Show
  • Comedy Performance - Ricky Gervais -The Office
  • Situation Comedy - The Office
  • Entertainment programme - Pop Idol
  • Entertainment performance - Graham Norton - So Graham Norton
  • Drama Series - Cold Feet
  • Drama Serial - The Way We Live
  • Best Actor - Michael Gambon - Perfect Strangers
  • Best Actress - Julie Walters - My Beautiful Son

The late John Thaw also won a posthumous award for his final role in Buried Treasure.

Thaw fans can now catch his signature role of Inspector Morse on BBC America. Incidentally, Morse's famous burgundy Mk II Jaguar was recently auctioned off, by a chap who'd previously won it in a contest, and fetched a rather decent £53,000.

Online Doctor Who drama ends

The BBC's web exclusive Doctor Who audio drama "Death Comes to Time" has concluded with all five installments still available for your listening pleasure (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/death/index.shtml )

In rather less pleasant Doctor Who news we are sad to report the passing of 80's era Who producer John Nathan-Turner, at the age of 54. It was Nathan-Turner who cast Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy for their respective turns as the Tardis travelling Doctor.

While your visiting the BBC cult site head over to the extremely cool Captain Scarlet

(http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/anderson/scarlet/index.shtml ) site to get ready for the upcoming DVD releases.

If you're a Gerry Anderson fan there's more happy DVD news - UFO is coming to shiny discs at the end of July. Set one features 13 episodes of Anderson's first foray into live action Sci-fi and a cracking effort it was. Highly recommended!

News tidbits

The debut of an Eastenders spinoff special cleaned up in the ratings when Ricky and Bianca (starring Patsy Palmer and Sid Owen) (http://www.bbc.co.uk/eastenders/ricky_bianca/index.shtml ) trounced the fledgling BBC spy drama Spooks (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/spooks ). Spooks features a stellar cast including Hugh Laurie, Anthony Head, Jenny Agutter, Keeley Hawes and Peter Firth but it's star power couldn't overcome the British publics need for more depressing soap opera action .

The return of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet has proved so popular that a fourth series is in the works.

In other returning series news it's been announced that the lad-comedy classic Men Behaving Badly will return next year in for three special episodes.
