Father Ted a-go-go | John Cleese | Radio 6Radio 6 The BBC's newest radio outlet, Radio 6, has been launched featuring a surprisingly tasteful mix of pop, rock, r&b, soul and reggae from the past four decades. Telly fans will recognize some of the stations presenters including Red Dwarf star Craig Charles, Sean's Show and Never Mind the Buzzcocks comedian Sean Hughes and Hughes' Buzzcocks compatriot Phil Jupitus, who runs the weekday morning show with great wit and cool tunes. Scattered amongst the classic BBC sessions, classic rock related radio documentaries and hit tunes there are occasional celebrity interviews --one I caught last week featured Phil J. chatting with Ground Force/Gardener's World hero Alan Titchmarsh. Mr. T. mentioned that he'd be hanging up his Ground Force trowel once the next series of 7 episodes had completed shooting. Sad news for US fans who haven't a chance to experience the full Titchmarch media explosion of books (green thumb how-to manuals and novels alike), videos and frequent screen and print appearances. I thought you might be... you see BBC America is in the midst of a little something it calls John Cleese Forever. "What's that?" you may well ask. What it is, basically, is a bunch of Cleese related programming, much of it originally aired a couple of years ago on the Beeb and subsequently available on DVD here in the States, ranging from a Cleese appearance on Parky to a slew of Python retrospectives and the entire 12 show run of Fawlty Towers. Catch as much as you can - it's all good. Check out http://www.bbcamerica.com for complete listings and airdates. S'okay? |
