Doctor Who DVD | Flambards DVD | Question Timeof, if not anti-American certainly less than compassionate discussion of the events on occasion. This, however, was nothing compared to a program that, thankfully, never aired here in the States. On the Thursday following the attacks the BBC aired an episode of it's current events program "Question Time" that centered around a debate on the proper US response to those horrific acts. Inexplicably the live studio audience seemed to be vocally anti-American and severely abused and heckled former US ambassador to Great Britain Phillip Lader to the edge of tears. Beyond the fact that most anti-American views are immature and ill thought out it's extraordinary that these opinions would be used against Mr. Lader, and our nation as a whole, so close on the heals of a historic and unprecedented nation tragedy. Claiming that US foreign policy is ultimately to blame for what happened is uninformed and hateful and one can only imagine the emotional reaction Mr. Lader must have had to such hateful rhetoric. It was tremendously reassuring to hear that over two thousand callers deluged the BBC switchboards to express their outrage over the incredibly insensitive comments and the seeming ideological imbalance within the studio audience. No two people, let alone two nations, ae ever going to agree on every aspect of life and society but at times like this the US and her allies need to be able to trust each other for the fight against international terrorism to ever have hope of succeeding.
