John Thaw | Patricia Routledge | BlackAdder DVD | Celeb CastawayI came upon some exciting programming news: From the Radio Times comes the announcement that a Christmas Jonathan Creek is in production. Even bigger news is the fact that Caroline Quentin will not be appearing as Creek's author/sidekick Maddie and that the producers will be casting another sidekick to take her place. No word as to whether this change is permanent or merely for the one-off yuletide episode. One time Doctor Who Peter Davison will be starring as Dangerous Davies in a new comedy-mystery series. Carry On fave Bernard Cribbens previously played the bumbling detective in the early eighties. The Independent reports that ITV and the BBC are preparing for an all out mystery series war with ITV enlisting Helen Mirren's Prime Suspect series and the Beeb preparing series starring the likes of Heartbeat's Nick Berry, Ballykissangel's Stephen Tompkinson and Poirot's David Sucet. Survivor in the Trenches The BBC are preparing a new reality show in the style of previous historical re-enactment's such as The 1900 House, this time 25 blokes are to be plunged into the terrifying position of soldiers in the trenches of World War One. I'm not a great fan of reality shows but these quasi-educational ones do appeal to me and it will be fascinating to see how this concept works out. DVD Delay Last time I promised a complete rundown on getting and watching UK DVDs in North America plus a review of the Tales of the Unexpected box set. Those plans went by the wayside when my BlackAdder discs showed up - I just couldn't wait to watch them and report back to everybody. I promise we'll have the UK DVD guide next time.
