UKTV Sites to See

This week we review a number of terrific UKTV related web sites.

The BBC's beeb.com keeps going from strength to strength. They've recently added Dad's Army and Stressed Eric areas to the Comedy Zone, and hosted a number of great chats in Oi! - including Are You Being Served's John Inman and Men Behaving Badly's Caroline Quentin as well as celebrities from the world of music and sport. Also from the BBC comes BBC America, a godsend to those of us in the USA (at least it will be when it's more widely available).

Fan pages are the backbone of web entertainment and there are a plethora of UKTV related fan sites. Here are but a few of note:

Fans of Amanda Burton (Peak Practice, Beck, Silent Witness) will be pleased to find a pair of excellent sites dedicated to this versatile actress The Amanda Burton Fan Page and Silent Witness.

Comedian, actor, author Stephen Fry (Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster), currently winning critical raves for his big screen portrayal of Oscar Wilde, is feted at pair of fine sites - Stephen Fry FAQ and QuickFry.

Goodnight Sweetheart and Ballykissangel's Dervla Kirwan has the Dervla Kirwan Fan Page and Sarah's Dervla Kirwan Page while Ballykissangel co-star Stephen Tompkinson ( Drop the Dead Donkey, Upwardly Mobile) has The Stephen Tompkinson Fan Page devoted to him.

Two classic cop dramas have recently gotten official sites - The Crime-Soap The Bill, and John Thaw's pre-Morse cop series The Sweeney.

TV's The Equalizer Edward Woodward has an award-winning site dedicated to his life and work The Edward Woodward WWW Page while fans of Sharpe thesp Sean Bean should surf over to the equally good Compleat Sean Bean.

If you're looking for a less mainstream, more technical view of British Television you'll want to visit any and all of the following sites, each of which examine the UKTV experience from a slightly different angle from archiving telly history to a collection of "classic" test cards.
