(Due to circumstances beyond our control the second installment of our
look at Doctor Who has been
pushed back until next time. In the meanwhile we hope you will enjoy this week's article
Comedy Tonight!)
This week we'll be looking at some terrific web sites dedicated to the best
in British comedy. Even if you've
never seen or heard of these programs, I heartily recommend giving the sites a visit. But be
warned - you may find Father Ted: My Lovely Horse Just days after completing filming on the last episode of the current series Father Ted star Dermot Morgan passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, dealing a huge blow to UK comedy and its fans. Luckily for us his work lives on in the inspired and irreverent Father Ted Crilley, a somewhat dodgy priest who finds himself exiled to Craggy Island with two other misfit clerics, the addle-brained Father Dougal Maguire, played by comedian Ardal O'Hanlon, and the psychotic. foul-mouthed Father Jack Hacket, played by the marvelous Frank Kelly. Together with their housekeeper, the tea-obsessed Mrs. Doyle, Pauline McGlynn, they run the wackiest parish in Ireland. Written by Arthur Mathews and Graham Lineham, FT is one of the finest comedies ever. The acting is superb with supporting players every bit as strong as the leads and scripts that rival the all time greats. Classic episodes include Father Ted and Father Dougal entering the "Song for Europe" competition (with music provided by The Divine Comedy), a holiday gone horribly wrong as the lads are mistaken for perverts and trapped in a caravan with a mad step-dancing priest, and the inspired Christmas special featuring eight priests trapped in Ireland's largest lingerie department. Two fine sites dedicated to Father Ted are The Craggy Island Examiner and The Original Father Ted Pages. Paul Whitehouse: Brilliant! The man of a thousand characters, Paul Whitehouse is one of British Comedy's brightest stars. Famous mostly for his work with Harry Enfield as the disc jockey duo of Smashey and Nicey, Whitehouse is now turning out The Fast Show, easily the funniest sketch program on telly today. And just as Whitehouse's tremendous talent augmented Enfield's work, so does Whitehouse surround himself with a troupe of fabulous comics. Highly recommended! Suits You Sir! On the Web, check out the Beeb's Fast Show and Harry Enfield sites. Men Behaving Badly: Lads will be lads . . . Now that we're finally getting the bad taste out of our mouths from the awful American version of Men Behaving Badly, it's time to re-visit the original - and so Go To Page: 1 2
