Around the house and garden

The holiday hustle and bustle lead me online this year in search of recipe ideas for holiday enetertaining and DIY advice to help spruce up the house for the festive season. Being a telly fan I naturally gravitated to UK based sites and was pleased to find so many familiar faces offering tips, advice and recipes. In fact I could have done all my work with the help of just  BBC afilliated sites! This led me to the topic for this fortnight's article - the web homes of some of your favorite TV chef's and home and garden shows. Let's start in the kitchen....

Start off with the BBC Food Homepage  where you will find tasty features, yummy recipes (Beef Wellington, French Apple Tart, Fire Roasted Vegetable  Loaf) and links to a host of food related sites including The Naked Chef where you can catch trendy Jamie Oliver’s newest recipes, the cooking competition program   Masterchef, and Gary Rhodes. BBC Food contains a vast recipe database, illuminating articles on food and wine and a busy message board. Using the sites WebGuide I was able to find such delicious sites as the Curry Pages , Helen’s British Cooking pages  and The Vegetarian Society of the United Kingdom

For more Naked Chef stuff you can also visit TV Food Network's site where they also have a section dedicated to the lovable Two Fat Ladies. BBC America has a small area set aside for the irrepressible Ainsley Herriot's Can't Cook, Won't Cook.

Fans of telly’s fictional chef Gareth Blackstock may not find recipes at Chef Internet  or the Unofficial Chef! Companion site  but no article on British TV Chef’s would be complete without a nod to Lenny Henry’s classic comic creation.

Now out to the back garden....

Ground Force fans can keep up with host Alan Titchmarsh, as well as Charlie and Tommy at the BBC Gardening site for top gardening tips and information on Ground Force and other BBC gardening shows such as Gardener’s World, The Flying Gardener and Charlie Dimmock’s Charlie’s Wildlife Gardens

Alan and Charlie can also be found on the web at Expert Gardner  where they dispense wit and wisdom to a dedicated community of wired gardeners, a superb site for the green thumbed (and the wannabe green thumbed) among us.
