The holiday season is fast approaching and thanks to the internet there are lots of cool Brit-TV gift choices available. Life of Python DVD

And now for something completely brilliant: A&E has released a two DVD set that pays tribute to the comic majesty of Monty Python's Flying Circus. Life of Python is a fitting end piece to the remarkable collection of boxed sets A&E have released over the past year collecting each and every episode of this landmark series. Life of Python is treasure trove for American Python fans who didn't have a chance to fly over the pond and watch BBC2's acclaimed night of Python programming in honor of the groups hundredth anniversary (or something like that).

Disc One contains the best of BBC2's smashing Python evening including brand new Python sketches. The sketches are nice in a way though a far cry from the glory days - which is exactly why the lads have never officially re-grouped since Meaning of Life, how can they hope to live up to the amazing standard they set for themselves? Highlights include:

  • The best yet documentary on the Pythons hosted by honorary member Eddie Izzard which contains scads of rare and interesting footage spanning the years from The Ken Dodd Show to the present

  • A rare Mayday sketch originally seen on some sort of Euro-broadcast yonks ago.

  • A Michael Palin led tour of familiar Python locations

  • Rocker Meat Loaf hosts a retrospective of Monty Python's Greatest Hits  - a musical history of the group from the Spam song onward.

  • A special South Park version of the Parrot Sketch

Disc Two is home to the legendary (and impossibly rare until now) "Monty Python's Fliegender Zirkus #2" which is worth the price of admission itself. Vintage Python, in English, that the vast majority of fans will have only seen snippets of in such places as the Live at the Hollywood Bowl feature film where excerpts were used as between the gags filler.

The presentation of the discs is superb, video and audio quality is high - excepting the obviously stressed rare and archival elements used now and again. Even if your still saving up to afford all the series box sets any fan worth their Spam should put Life of Python at the top of
