1900 House Another British import that I'm very much looking forward to seeing in early June, on PBS this time, is 1900 House which is, it seems, sort of a cross between Upstairs Downstairs and The Real World. At some point, some clever bod in the telly business thought to themselves " What a cracking series we could have if we sent a thoroughly modern turn of the millennium family back into time to the turn of the last century. One can just imagine the fine viewing that would result in seeing these people of today try to cope with the everyday realities of yesterday." What a disappointment it must have been to learn that time travel technology is still lagging far behind what would be needed to send a family back a hundred years. Luckily, that didn't stop the BBC. If the family can't go back to another age, then the other age is going to have to come to the family. What they did was stick a thoroughly modern turn of the millennium family into a retro-fitted Victorian home. Then they sat back and watched as they did their best to live their very real lives as if they were living in Victorian London. It's a triffic concept and reports I've had from British friends who saw it last year in the UK are very positive. So, make sure to check your PBS listings in early June. Go To Page: 1 2
