This week's big story is the announcement of the UKTV SotY99 nominees but before we get to that...
There are quite a few worthwhile items in BBC America's holiday programming this year. I'm thrilled that we'll be getting holiday themed episodes of Changing Rooms episodes during Christmas week and "A Christmas Dickens" (Dec. 17, 20, 25) which "re-enacts Dickens own performances of the many Christmas stories he wrote and staged for his friends and acquaintances." should be fascinating. In fact I'm looking forward to all of the Dicken's related programs slated for the holidays including two adaptations of "A Christmas Carol" (one being the marvelous Blackadder version) and Our Mutual Friend (beginning Dec. 21) starring Steven Mackintosh and former Brookside heart throb Anna Friel looks like another winning period drama. Another Christmas feature not to be missed is the Alan Cummings & Lenny Henry vehicle "Bernard and the Genie" (Christmas Day) which has become a Crimbo staple in our house. Also airing On Christmas Day will be the Queen's message and a number of episodes of the beloved brit-com "Vicar of Dibley".
Now it's time for the UKTV Site of the Year 1999 nominees!
The UKTV SotY awards have been voted on by the web surfing public since 1996 when they began life at my own Bigglethwaite's UKTV Fan site. There seemed to be web awards for everyone under the sun but precious few for the many hard working webmasters paying homage to their favorite British television shows. Thus the UKTV SotY's were born to correct this grievous oversight .
This year, as every year, the nominees have been selected from the best telly related websites I've found as well has hundred's of nominations from UKTV fans worldwide, including many loyal Suite 101 users. Voters may cast one ballot and all valid entries are entered into a prize drawing. As a special thank you to Suite 101 users there will be a second Suite101 only prize draw.
