it came as close as any post '60's series in recreating the original Avengers ambiance. Dave Mathews Authorized New Avengers site is top notch and well worth a visit for any fan of either series.

Dempsey and Makepeace: He's a rough and tumble NYC Cop, she's a Scotland Yard detective with royal blood in her veins together they fight crime as part of the elite SI-10 undercover unit. It's a miracle that pitch ever got green lighted but in the '80's anything was possible. Against all odds the show worked, the chemistry between the two leads, Michael Brandon as the yank Dempsey, Glynis Barber as his upper crust partner Makepeace, worked much to the series benefit. Press Gang: Here's a kids show that even the grown-ups like. Well written, surprisingly well performed and featuring a young Julia Sawalha, Press Gang follows the exploits of a student newspaper and it rag tag staff of young would be journalists. journalist. Though merely a "kids" show Press Gang rivals many, if not most, prime time serio-comedies and stands up rather well to repeat viewings, without the need for gimmicks or excessive sex, violence and swearing.
