It's been a long, hard fight but there's finally a winner in the Brit-Mystery Showdown. Colin Dexter's Inspector Endeavor Morse, as portrayed by John Thaw, has been voted the Best Sleuth on British Telly (Huzzah!). It was another close vote, Morse won by a mere handful of votes (142 - 137) over his Scottish adversary Taggart. Congratulations Morse! Watch for our next poll in two weeks, it's going to be Poptastic! It's been a busy month for the Monty Python lads and while fans are thrilled that the troupe have recorded a few new sketches, the news is not all good. A&E Video has released the first of the Python series DVD's , but there seems to be some difficulty getting them from certain online video retailers, then came the announcement that the A&E cable network has dropped Python from its schedule, though there is a chance that they will eventually show the 30th Anniversary special. Speaking of the anniversary events, this weekend BBC2 is devoting Saturday night to special Python programming including a pair of documentaries and a screening of the classic film Life of Brian. The boys, along with honorary Python's Eddie Izzard and newsreader Peter Sissions, filmed some new sketches that will also see their premier on BBC2's Monty Python Night. There was also to have been a Python stage show in honor of their thirty years together but, the BBC reports, after Eric Idle had put a great deal of time and energy into creating it the other Pythons bailed out leaving Idle bitter and, for the time being at least, not speaking to, or appearing with, his comedy chums. Hopefully time will heal this wound and they can all get along again sometime soon. To celebrate the Python's 30th why not visit the BBC's Special Python Report PA News reports a survey that found Dawn French, among 86 others, wielding more influence over the British public than the Queen herself! Well done Dawn! Fans can feel more of her influence at the excellent Chocolate and Jellybabies fan site Somewhat surprisingly, Britain's new favorite program is a natural history documentary. The biggest program on the BBC this week was Walking With Dinosaurs, which scored an estimated 51% of the UK viewing audience. Check out the official BBC Walking With Dinosaurs Website for more information on the phenomena in the making plus all kinds of Dino-goodies.
