UKTV: Start Here....
From it's earliest days (not so long ago) the Web has held a treasure trove of information and resources for fans of British Television. FAQ's, episode guides, sounds and images, press clippings and more. There's a ton of stuff out there but it can sometimes be tough to find. Here are a few good starting points for your UKTV surfing. To get the most bang for your buck (or pow for your pound) try these sites that collect and categorize hundreds of links... Bigglethwaite's UKTV QuickSheet: Selects only the choicest UKTV sites in a wide range of categories from Britcom to Crime Drama to Supermarionation and many more. Bigglethwaite's is also home to the UKTV Site of the Week and UKTV Site of the Year. (note: Of course I may be slightly biased about this one, it's my own site <g>) British Comedy Library: FAQ Headquarters for fans of The Young Ones, Ben Elton, Thin Blue Line and more. UK Laughter Links: A Good looking site that concentrates on links to various Britcom related sites. Prarie Net British Comedy Clearinghouse: Home of the wonderful Britcomedy Digest. Also has a Britcom links page. Yahoo UK TV Directory: Browse or search Yahoo's British Television listings. If you want to know what's on tonight (or next week) try these listings sites: Yearling: The first and still finest listings site. Create your own personal program list showing only the programs, channels and times your interested in. An amazing site that also features in depth articles on current and classic telly among its rich and varied offerings. Radio Times @ beeb.com: Now the venerable Radio Times (yes it covers TV too, mostly in fact) is online with a host of cool features including the ability to save a personal diary of program choices that you can later print out. There are also a number of newsgroups dedicated to British television: alt.comedy.british : Focuses mostly on telly related discussions. rec.arts.tv.uk.comedy : A lively and opinionated group, good fun and information. rec.arts.tv.uk.misc : Same as above but this time the discussions cover the whole gamut of television genres. If it's not a comedy or a soap (popular soaps their own separate newsgroups) then this is the place to talk about it. With the above mentioned sites you should be able to get a good idea of all the great UKTV sites out there. Happy surfing! | |
