Dateline April 1 1999 I recently had the honor of sitting in on a program planners meeting where a number of new series were given the green light. Though I was sworn to secrecy, I feel it is my duty, as your humble correspondent, to give a sneak peak at some of the hot new shows coming soon to a telly near you. Monty Python Babies: In an attempt to capitalize on the lucrative children's television market, the powers that be bring us the animated Monty Python Babies. Kiddies will love the many zany characters as they re-create such classic sketches as the Dead Parrot Sketch, the Undertaker's Sketch and of course the kiddies favorite - Mr. Creosote. Keep your eye out for the charming line of toys, dolls, action figures and herbal soaps. The Real World: Buckingham Palace - EMTV takes their cameras inside the palace. Charles in Charge: Wacky antics ensue when Charlie Windsor takes over the family business from his elderly mum. Guffaw as Charles tries to keep his mum from meddling in state affairs while juggling the monarchy and his other job as full-time Dad. In the first episode sparks fly when Chuck invites his girlfriend to move into the palace! Spice News: In an effort to increase public awareness of current events the Spice Girls will take turns anchoring the evening news. Spice News is seen as a companion piece to the already hugely popular Songs of Praise with the Backstreet Boys. Period Drama: With the likes of Dickens, Trollope and Austen basically tapped out, the planners have had to go to some rather more obscure sources for the upcoming seasons costume dramas. Carton Squabbs "My Life with Cheese," Lady Clarrissa Hychlethorpes "Diary of a Maiden Aunt," and Clive Smythe-Pfister-Smythe's "Illustrated Field Guide to the Trees in my Back Garden," plus the long-awaited musical version of "Silas Mariner" with Julian Clary, Lily Savage and Ruby Wax. I hope you've enjoyed this sneak peek at upcoming programs. If you'd like more information on these shows just come back next April Fools Day and I'll see what I can do. On a more serious note it's time for Comedy! The semi-finals of the Battle of the Britcoms is about to commence. The nominees in the first semi-final are "Are You Being Served," "The Vicar of Dibley," "Fawlty Towers," Keeping Up Appearances," and "Red Dwarf." The winner goes on to the Finals! Go To Page: 1
