Treat Yourself for the Holidays!

Merry Christmas. Happy Channukah. Happpy Kwanza. For the past two years, I have marked the holiday season by stating all the things we should be thankful for. This year, I broke with tradition and listed those people and things that I was greatful for at the Thanksgiving holiday, the beginning of the season for many of us.

Since this article appears a bit before Christmas, I am going to suggest that this season, you do something for yourself. If you are a patient or survivor, you deserve it. I know I suggest that you take time to enjoy the little things in life - a butterly on a branch, the smell of newly cut grass, a child's laughter, a warm hug, but this holiday season, I am letting you shop till you drop! It doesn't have to be expensive, but it has to be meaningful for YOU.

If you are the loved one or friend of someone who's life has been touched by breast cancer, below are some suggestions for things that might really show you are trying to be there for her.

I am not connected with any of these sights or stores, but I do enjoy (and collect) lots of breast cancer related items. I have tons of different breast cancer pins. I started collecting first day issue envelopes, with both the original breast cancer stamp and the newer breast cancer research stamp. I have them intermingled with my pink ribbon pins and advocacy buttons. They are on a bulletin board in my bedroom. It's behind a door - not totally "in your face" to visitors, but I know, when I close the door, these artifacts are there for me. Somehow, they are comforting to me. It also makes me feel good that some of the money goes to breast cancer organizations.

So feel free to browse the websites and email me with your own suggestions. Not everything is breast cancer related. Some are angels, some are just female stuff. Enjoy! Treat yourself right. You deserve it this holiday season.

http://www.stainedglassman.com This gentleman makes magnificent stained glass items - from standing angels, to lamps, to garden stones to a gorgeous pink ribbon suncatcher with dove that he designed for my fundraising efforts at our breast center. His work is unique and he usually can customize his designs for you if necessary. He donates all the suncatchers he makes for our cause to our program. A great guy and breathtaking merchandise.
