Survivor's Promise
We wanted the participants to gather as a group and pledge their allegiance to true survivorship. When I searched for a creed for cancer survivors, I found creeds for fibromyalgia and other diseases, but none for cancer. So I wrote one. I hope you enjoy it. I was proud to have the 400+ survivors share in their commitment to celebrating life as a survivor. Survivor's Promise I pledge to live each day to the best of my ability. To find joy in my daily life. To overcome any problems put in my path. To keep my sense of humor and laugh out loud. To use my inner strength to see me through the hard times. I promise to not let pride get in my way. If I need help, I will ask for it. I will be my own best friend. I will be part of my medical team, not just a patient. I will ask questions. I will search for hard answers. I will not take "No" for an answer. I will share life with family and friends. I that that it is OK to cry. Only I know how strong I really am. I will cherish my memories. I will not allow negative people or thoughts to ruin my day. If I get knocked down, I will pick myself up. I will enjoy the simple things in life. Like colorful balloons or a newborn kitten. I will be thankful each day for things that make me smile. I will be happy because I know I am special. I promise to help other patients in any way I can. I will be proud of the battle I have fought. Because I have won. I am still me. I am better than ever. I am a survivor. ©Linda Bily Survivor since 1998
