The AACR conference was the first conference that I have attended with fellow advocates who were not breast-cancer related. It was a great experience! Each cancer has its own problems and special concerns, but we all have a common goal - to eradicate cancer, educate the public about screening and preventive measures and ensure continued funds for research, education and patient services. This is the second half of a brief introduction to the advocates and their organizations.

While I did not have the chance to interact with each and every advocate personally, they are a fabulous, high-energy group of individuals and I salute each and every one of them for their dedication to the cause. Checking out all the websites was an eye-opener for me personally. I've just written a quick blurb about each group and a bit about the advocate I met if we ended up sharing some time together. Mark Gorman appears to be a quiet soul, until you get him started on cancer survivorship! His real expertise in this much needed area of patient support shines through.

National Melanoma Foundation http://nationalmelanoma.org The National Melanoma Foundation was established by people genuinely dedicated to battling melanoma on all fronts. Each board member has experienced melanoma firsthand: either from being a survivor or losing a loved one to the disease. Melanoma has largely been ignored as "just skin cancer" yet the incidence is increasing at epidemic proportions, with one person dying every hour from the disease.
