On the rear wings, there are elevators, and like the elevators we're used to, they go up and down. When the elevators are down, the wind hits it and forces the plane downward. To go upward, the elevators go up. When the elevators are down, the right ailerons are down, the left ailerons are up, and the rudder is left, the plane goes into a diving left turn. A shallow dive is usually used when turning, because if the plane is going too fast, the wings would get ripped of if you just yanked the controls left or right. The engines are also a key in flying. With larger planes, jet engines are used. Jet engines create more power then the smaller turboprop engines, thus enabling the craft to fly at much greater speeds. Well, it's time for me to head out now. Good luck with the merit badge, and until next time, happy trails!
