Web sites about merit badges© Nicholas Bittner
Hey all. Today I'm going to be going through a list of helpful websites, which I think will help
you get further along in scouting, or in the case of my first link, provide scoutmasters with ideas.
The first link is Preopening activities for scout meetings. This is a site mainly for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or LDS. It has plenty of ideas for activities to do before scout meetings. There was one in particular I found rather interesting. "Tie about a six foot piece of rope to the right wrist of one Scout. Put his right arm behind his back and pass the rope between his legs. Then pass the other end of the rope through the legs of another Scout and tie the other end of the rope to the second Scout's right wrist. Have them do what they must without untying the rope so that the rope is no longer between their legs and they are facing each other." This is from the web page, which is full of ideas like this one. I give it four stars. This next site is called Merit badges, past and present and their evolution. It's a rather interesting site that has information about all of the merit badges. In one list it has the new merit badges and what they used to be called, and in another it has the old merit badges and what they're called now. I'd give it about three stars. The next site is run by NASA, and is called Starchild. It's an informative website about the universe and almost everything in it. It's missing a few details, and some of the facts I believe are slightly off, but it's still a good site. This is a great place to learn about most of what you'll need for te Astronomy badge. It's for kids, and you can choose level one or level two, level one being for younger kids. The page skims over some details, but overall you get the general basis of what they're trying to tell you. I'd give it four and a half stars. Our last website is the Leave No Trace which is run by the BSA. It's a fairly good site, and has tips for teaching, and activity plans. Not exactly the most interesting site, but it's something that everyone should know about. I give it three stars. Well, it's time for me to head out. I hope you get something out of these links. Until next time, happy trails! Go To Page: 1
