Pat Traymore has just landed the interview of a lifetime: a primetime special with Senator Abigail Jennings, a shoe-in to become the first female Vice-President of the United States. The only catch is that Pat must return to the high-pressure world of Washington, D.C., a past she left behind when the murder/suicide of her parents, Senator Dean and Renee Adams, turned her childhood upside down. Now Pat is back, shielded by a new identity, but haunted by the memory of the tragedy she witnessed in her long-deserted home. Immediately upon arrival in Washington, Pat begins to receive threatening letters and phone calls. Someone knows who she really is and wants to put a stop to Pat's TV special and to prevent her from uncovering the past. As Pat unearths disturbing secrets involving Senator Jennings's history, she puts her life further in danger. Can Ms. Traymore finally free herself from her childhood demons or will she die at the hands of a madman? And just who exactly is it that wants to see her dead? If you've ever read a Mary Higgins Clark novel, you know these questions will keep you guessing right to the heart-pounding ending. Ms. Clark is the maven of mystery/suspense dramas. While her newest endeavors have been a bit disappointing, Stillwatch is one of her earlier works, which radiate with genius storytelling and nail-biting suspense.
