To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

I know what you're thinking. How could any reader have missed To Kill a Mockingbird? But, when was the last time you sat down and savored this book? If you're like me, this classic novel was required high school reading. You read it because you had to, as did I.

So, almost fifteen years later, I decided to reread it, this time because I wanted to. I was not disappointed, more enthralled than ever in Harper Lee's fluid story telling magic. This heart-warming tale made me laugh, made me cry and left me wishing it didn't have to end.

Published in 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird is the tale of young Scout Finch's journey through childhood. Growing up in a society filled with racial intolerance, bigotry and hatred, she miraculously learns the values of compassion, human dignity and love.

Harper Lee always considered her book to be a simple tale of love. It's that and so much more. As fresh today as it was 40 years ago, this novel stands the test of time, teaching us all what it means to be human.

Experience one more time the trial of Tom Robinson that shook small-town Alabama. Rediscover the mystery behind Boo Radley, the Finch's next door neighbor. Go ahead, pick it up again. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
