Millard Fillmore, Mon Amour: A Review© Irene Taylor
I've just finished reading a great book. If you are looking for some fun, entertaining reading this holiday season, be sure to check out Millard Fillmore, Mon Amour a novel by John Blumenthal who is also the author of the hit novel What's Wrong with Dorfman?: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/book...
Millard Fillmore, Mon Amour is a romantic comedy that tells the tale of Plato G. Fussell, the hero of the story, and his search for the love of his life (even though he considers the idea of love to be "a pile of horse manure"). Plato, independently wealthy from a fortune made writing obituaries, is a complete neurotic who finds the whole concept of love to be "unmitigated hogwash". Yet, we follow Plato through the story as he searches unendingly for that very thing - love. As the story unfolds, we discover Plato's theories on love, on family relationships, on canine affection, on his relationship with his therapist Dr. Wang, and on the loves of his life, the beautiful Daisy Crane and the mysterious Emily Thorndyke. Plato's on again-off again work on his 10-volume biography of Millard Fillmore, our 13th president, provides an engaging counterpoint to his relationships and his life. These elements all intertwine to make for an extremely funny and engaging read. Plato quickly became a character I cared about and I found myself rooting for him each time I picked up the book, making the reading all that much more enjoyable. Pick up this terrific book this holiday - you'll be glad you did! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0... ~~~~~ Copyright 2004 Irene Taylor All rights reserved
