Getting a Grip on Children's Lit: A Sneak Preview© Irene Taylor
School is about ready to start, and all of you parents and teachers out there are probably looking for some great books for your children to get the new school year started off right.
Before you hit the book stores or libraries, you might want to check out the course Getting a Grip on Children's Lit: http://www.suite101.com/course.cfm/17939... at Suite University. This course is written and taught by Rachel Steen, a mom, a Montessori teacher and now a sales person in a children's book store. Here's a bit of what Rachel has to say in her course introduction: This course will talk about categories of children's books (i.e.- board book, picture book, chapter book) and what they mean. It will offer guidelines in determining the age level of certain books, reading aloud to children and stages of reading, as well as the discussion of must read books, classic books, award winners, etc. The student can expect to gain insight into children's literature from someone in the field of children's books, and tips on making the buying experience an easier and more pleasant one. This course is aimed at Parents, educators, and anyone interested or involved with children and/or children's books. Her objectives are: 1.To provide clear definitions and examples of different categories of children's books 2.To differentiate between the reading level, and read aloud level of a book 3.To offer guidelines in choosing books for children from birth to seven years old 4.To introduce and discuss some popular books for children of various ages. 5.To make the buying experience an easier and more pleasant one. 6.To offer related topics of discussion, and valuable references. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?? So, if you are looking for some ideas on picking out the right book for your child, be sure to check out Rachel's course: http://www.suite101.com/course.cfm/17939...
