Books and Publishers

This past week, there was one topic and one topic only leading every news story. It seemed logical to find and list the more popular books that have been written on Princess Diana  In order of publication, here they are:

  • Ann Wallace, Gabrielle Taylor, Royal Mothers: From Eleanor Of Aquitaine To Princess Diana, Piatkus Books (1987)

  • Julie Bach, Princess Diana, Abdo & Daughters (1990)

  • Lady Colin Campbell, Diana In Private: The Princess Nobody Knows, Warner (1992)

  • Nicholas Davies, Diana: A Princess And Her Troubled Marriage, Birch Lane Press, US (1992)

  • Andrew Morton, Diana: Her True Story, M O'Mara Books (1992)

  • Also on cassette: Andrew Morton, Stephanie Beacham, Diana: Her True Story, Simon & Schuster Audio. One 90 minute cassette. (1992)

  • Andrew Morton, Diana: Her New Life, M O'Mara Books (1994)

  • Also on cassette: Andrew Morton, Robert Powell, Diana: Her New Life, Spoken for Audio. Two cassettes. 150 minutes.

  • Chris Hutchins, Dominic Midgley, Diana On The Edge: Inside The Mind Of The Princess Of Wales, Smith Gryphon (1996)

  • Diana Simmonds, Squidgie Dearest: The Making Of A Media Goddess, Australia's Love Affair With Princess Diana, Pluto Press (1996)

I'm sure these are available in many places.  However, one online source is Art Books of London. Also, this is by no means a comprehensive list. There have been more books written about her, from more diverse sources.

Information on some of the latest books, CDs and web sites is available at ProActive Books which is focusing on Diana this month. The links and topics include:

  • The Housekeeper's Diary : Charles and Diana Before the Breakup in which one of Diana's housekeepers details Diana's life from 1985 until 1992 on audio cassette.

  • Her nanny's story, Little Girl Lost: The Troubled Childhood of Princess Diana by the Woman Who Raised Her.

  • Her astrologer's story, With Love from Diana/the Princess of Wales' Personal Astrologer Shares Her First-Hand Account of Diana's Turbulent Years. Penny Thorton became Diana's astrologer in 1986.

On a less commercial and more personal interest note, Lisa Marie Landrum has gone into the whole royal family bibliography a little more extensively on her book page at  Lisa Marie Landrum's Ultimate Royal Web Page. She has taken her library of royal family books and divided them "into the following sections: The Windsors, Elizabeth & Philip, Charles & Diana, Andrew & Fergie, Edward VIII, The Romanovs, Other Royal Rulers, Rainier & Grace, and Diana & Fergie."
