Bret Easton Ellis

The third issue of Independent Review is up. I mention this for two reasons. One, it's a great site for reviews of new releases and two, I wrote one of those reviews (Glamorama by Bret Easton Ellis).

Bret Easton Ellis is not universally admired as a writer. At alt.culture, American Psycho is referred to as being "largely dismissed by leading reviewers as witless polemic hiding behind bad writing." I think they're wrong. The style is frenetic. What I like is the energy -- that kind of riding high on speed or whatever drug of choice makes a person run fact -- that races from the beginning to the madness to the end.

Here is a list of Ellis' books:

Glamorama (an excerpt)

The Informers (a review)

American Psycho (a review)

The Rules of Attraction (a review)

Less Than Zero (a review)

Bret speaks:

Barnes and Noble Chat Transcript

What other say about American Psycho

Check out some of his writing and tell me what you think,

Joanne
