More Q&AQ: I have kind of an embarrassing problem... I don't use steroids, and still I've noticed my pecs are kind of "drooping" when relaxed, making them look like the beginning stages of breasts. I train religiously, I have very little bodyfat, and still I think it keeps getting worse! What's up with this?? A: Don't panic. What you're seeing is probably the effect of too much decline bench pressing. Lately, I've seen a surge the number of people using decline presses (the kind where you lock your legs between two rolls and lay with your head down on a declining bench). This often allows you to use slightly more weight in the bench press, which as we all know is the holy grail for 99% of the male gymrats ages 15 to 30. The bad news is, the pectoralis major has a fan-shape, allowing you to train different areas to different degrees. If you do a lot of INCLINE presses, you're weaker compared to the flat press, but you train the UPPER part of your chest. This gives you a well-balanced, rock-solid look. However, if you train the LOWER part of your pecs too much, especially if neglecting the upper part, you grow the muscles into looking like a flat-chested dude with beginning bitch tits. Make sense? The muscles will grow according to how you train them, so my advice to you is to STOP doing decline presses immediately, and focus on flat and incline presses for a couple of months. When you've balanced out and start feeling comfortable again, you can go back to a normal training routine again - splitting the focus equally between the upper and lower part of the chest. Q: Why is breakfast so important? A: When you've been asleep for 8 or so hours, you haven't eaten for at least 8 hours, possibly more like 10 or 11 hours. This means your body is really low on amino acids and carbs, both something you want to have floating around in your body to stay anabolic. The best way to break the starvation (!) of your muscles is to have a hearty breakfast as soon as possible as you wake up. Also, if you work out early in the day, it's extra important to get a lot of carbs with your breakfast, as you'll need it to fuel your workout.
