  • Straight or A-line skirts
  • A slightly constructed, longer-length shaped jacket in a lightweight wool jersey.
  • A lower-waisted, straight-leg, flat-front pant (pleats will add bulk to the hip area)
  • Dark shades such as navy, chocolate or black on the bottom
  • A small-scale belt worn slightly below the waist. A belt with a contour shape is best.
  • Accessories and shoes close to the same color clothes you are wearing for an unbroken slimmer look.
  • A tonal look. If you want to add some sparkle or color, do it on top to draw attention away from your lower body.
  • Chiffon wide-leg pant or a chiffon ball skirt, that has little gathering or few pleats at the waist, in basic black and pair it with a beaded top or a sequined twin set
  • An off-the-shoulder neckline will help balance the top and bottom.
  • A strapless ball gown covers the bottom half and focus' on the top half

    Avoid:

  • Very wide pinafore skirts.
  • Halter necklines.
  • Chunky, wide hip belts with ornaments.
  • Flashy colors or overpowering patterns on the bottom
  • Cargo pockets, pleated-front pants and high-waisted pants
  • Anything that is too boxy in shape or too cropped in length
  • Too many layers or color contrasts.
  • A sheath dress
  • V-necks will draw the eyes downward.

    Top heavy woman. Reverse Triangle

    Choose:

  • Long jackets without shoulder pads.
  • Darker colors on top.
  • Tops with dolman or raglan sleeves and ones that fit loose and slims down to hug the hips and waist are good.
  • Choose thin materials like cotton, or cotton jersey
  • Wear pants or skirts that are pleated to bring the eye down.
  • One color dressing will also be thinning.
  • Flat shoes are best unless you are short, then wear heels
  • If you have nice legs shorter hem lengths will draw attention away from your top

    Avoid:

  • Blouses with fancy details and ruffles.
  • Clingy fabrics on top
  • Tops that are too light.

    Rectangular type woman

    Choose:

  • The rectangular type can emphasize curves by wearing jackets or tops that hug the waist, feminine thick sweaters over skirts or pants.
  • Empire-waist gowns make you look soft and feminine.
  • A ball gown with a Basque waist will give you the nipped-in waist look.
  • Add dimension by using patterns in your top or bottom.
  • Use necklaces, scarves and other accessories to round out the neckline.
  • Use shoulder pads.

    Avoid:

  • Stay away from sheaths and dropped waists, which will make you look even boxier.
