No one likes getting into, out of, and riding in, a car that does not have enough leg or head room. Here are a few recommendations to fit those with larger or taller proportions.

Sedans

Acura MDX or TL
Audi A6
Chevrolet Malibu (wide range of seat-height adjustment) or Impala
Chrysler 300
Dodge Intrepid
Ford 500 or Scorpio or Taurus
Honda Accord or Civic
Hyundai Elantra - wide range of seat adjustment
Lexus LS430 or LS400
Mercedes-Benz E320
Nissan Altima - Lots of headroom and legroom, a large footwell
Oldsmobile Intrigue
Pontiac Bonneville or Grand Prix
Saab 95 - large build/long torso
Toyota Corolla
Volkswagen Passat
Volvo S60 (long torso) or S80

Large/Luxury Sedans
Buick LeSabre
Cadillac Deville or Fleetwood
Ford Crown Victoria
Mercury Grand Marquis
Lincoln – LS or Towncar or Continental or Mark VII LSC

Compacts
BMW MINI Cooper S
Chevrolet Aveo

Ford Focus - surprising amount of headroom and legroom
GEO Metro
Renault Clio
Toyota Matrix - adequate back seat room
Volkswagen Beetle

Wagons
Chevrolet Malibu Maxx - wide range of seat-height adjustment
Chrysler PT Cruiser - lots of headroom and legroom, wide footwell.
Volvo V70/Cross Country

Minivans
Ford Aerostar or Windstar or Galaxy
Mazda MPV

Pick-Ups
Chevrolet Silverado
Ford F-150
Dodge Ram
GMC Sierra
Nissan Titan

SUVs
Ford Escape or Explorer

Mazda Tribute - a wide range of seat-height adjustment and seat-track travel.
Honda Element (larger than the Scion xB) or Pilot
Jeep Cherokee – but no rear seat room with tall people in front.
Nissan Pathfinder LE
Suzuki Vitara
Toyota Scion xB - enormous amounts of headroom and legroom
Cadillac Escalade
Chevy Suburban - lots of room everywhere.
Ford Expedition or Excursion
Lincoln Navigator
Nissan Armada - well suited for tall people
Range Rover

Large Vehicle Checklist:

  • Check for the amount of room in the rear seat(s) as well as the driver's seat.
  • The footwell should offer enough room for large shoes to move comfortably and safely from accelerator to brake, and for the left leg to rest comfortably on long drives.
