Freedom Paradise is a resort on the Riviera Maya near Tulum, Mexico, about 70 miles from Cancun. The resort, which opened in June of 2003, advertises itself as a size-friendly resort. Freedom Paradise is the concept of the General Director, Julio Rincón. He had noticed the plus-size market was a niche being ignored. Jurriaan Klink of Holland, is the Commercial Director who took the idea and shaped it into the concept to have a size-friendly resort with a staff who have all taken special sensitivity training.
The idea was to have a place you could go and walk on the beach, swim, and relax, no matter what size you were. Too many plus size people never take that vacation because they are waiting to loose weight or are embarrassed to be seen in swimwear. That everyone should be able to have a get-away location was the concept behind Freedom Paradise.
But many of the things that made Freedom Paradise attractive to larger sizes are still there and still make it an attractive destination. The hotels pools feature wide steps instead of aluminum ladders. The beach chairs are big wide benches made of wood, not plastic. The dining room chairs are 26 inches wide and have no armrests so you need never worry about getting stuck in them. Pools and showers have safety rails. The showers are walk in and many have benches in the showers. The beds are big and reinforced and the doorways are double wide. They even offer extra-wide hammocks made of stronger fabric. Many rooms are on the ground floor, just a short distance from the beach, a pool and the dining room. The walkways are wide and even. All of these features makes Freedom paradise attractive to the large size traveler, but will also be appreciated by the elderly or handicapped. Perhaps the best thing they offer is the long stretch of beautiful secluded beach. You can put on your swimsuit and go to the beach without suffering the stares or comments often found on public beaches. Featuring a powdery white sand beach that fronts the Caribbean Sea for 250 yards, Freedom Paradise encourages visitors to enjoy the beach and other amenities. Some of those amenities include scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing and sailing. Visit Mayan ruins at Tulúm, Cobá and Xel-Ha, or take part in meditations, yoga exercises, and bird feeding.
