Blended Thanksgiving

Mom sends me to the store -- lucky me -- to pick up a 'few' last minute items for the meal. I come back $87.00 lighter with about five bags of last-minute items. I really don't think the grocery stores put much in those bags, though, to make you think you're getting more for your money than you actually are. Anyway, I then escape into the computer room or family room to watch some TV for awhile while Mom and Step-Dad get things ready for the next day.

My Step-sister arrives around 9:00 pm, boisterous and glad for the long trip to be over. She has one very wet, crying baby, one 5 year old who has been sleeping half the way here, and a 10 year old who is almost the same age as my brother. (My Mom has a grandson a year younger than her youngest son -- isn't that cool?) They get settled in for the night and by 11:00 the lights are out and there are children in sleeping bags all over the floor in the livingroom, and I'm sleeping on the couch, which is fine by me.

We wake up in the morning to the phone ringing with the news that one step-brother isn't coming because his wife is in the hospital having her baby. That's okay -- I'll be happy to eat a little bit more for them. (grin). This is their first child so they're all excited and my step-dad is thrilled because this is his oldest son's first child. Mom tells him to go ahead and go over to the hospital if he'd like, and she'll handle the dinner. She understands. (She doesn't go because Step-Dad's ex-wife will be there and that will be awkward). He says no way -- he will stay here with the family and they will call him from the hospital when the baby is born. All is going well.

Step-dad loves to cook turkey. He thinks he is the gormet turkey king, and really puts on a good show while he's doing it. I like to steer clear of the kithen totally and just sit back and enjoy the aromas coming from the kitchen. Now the kids are all up and running around the house, jumping on the couch (and me), and we turn on the Thanksgiving Day parade. We clean up the livingroom and make room for all
