I'd like to first offer my deepest sympathies to the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11th. Not only are those who were killed or injured victims in this heinous act -- but also their loved ones, their friends, their co-workers, their fellow countrymen. America was victimized by a faceless, cowardly enemy who refuses to show his face. One that uses as tools people who commit suicide for their cause, who have been so brainwashed as to believe our great country is a negative influence on the world.
This is so sad, and yet makes a person so very angry. There was first horror, shock, sadness, and then comes the anger and the determination to bring to justice whoever is responsible for these crimes. How does this affect our relationship with our families? Watching a television interview, which I believe was done in the poorest of taste -- I saw a man with his young child sitting on his lap, and a reporter was shoving a microphone in his face and asking him about his father, who was on one of the planes that was used in the terrorist attacks. The reporter asked the man how he was feeling. The man was openly crying..and the reporter asked him if he loved his dad. The guy was obviously in a lot of pain and shock, so he just said "yes, of course I love my dad." I would have told that reporter where to go at that point. How can some of the media be so inconsiderate? How many times have you seen a reporter in someone's face after losing a close member of a family or other tragedy has befallen someone? It is a balance between taking away freedom in order to protect people or having someone take our freedom away, in the form of terrorist attacks. How much control should our government have -- how much is too much? I believe that young man should have stood up, handed his child to the person sitting next to him, and gave that reporter a good left hook. Maybe the reporter would have learned something about asking stupid questions. And maybe he just would have sued the guy. As long as we are a free country, we have to put up with some inconveniences in our lives, but unless these terrorists are found and brought to justice, we may just lose much of that freedom that American was founded on.
