Moving And The Blended FamilyMoving is a strenuous experience no matter who you are, but when you are part of a blended family, there are additional considerations. First, how many bedrooms will your new place have? It is important that the child or children that aren't living with you full time have their own room if at all possible. I realize this isn't always feasible financially or otherwise, depending on how many children you have and how much money. If you aren't able to do this, at least make sure the child has some area that they can feel is theirs. They must have somewhere to hang their hat, in other words. Even if it is just a corner of one of the rooms, somewhere to display their personal things; trophies, artwork, etc., it is important to make them feel they belong with the rest of the family. Another good way to make them feel 'at home' in the new home is to let them help with the packing, moving in, and unpacking. Let them help decide what goes where. A real source of headaches is when it comes to choosing whose room belongs to whom; but it should be reasonably easy to explain to the child who doesn't live there full time that the larger or more conveniently situation room should go to the child that spends all their time there. It is important that they feel welcome, though, and that they have a place or area of their own. When you move into a new area and a new home there is an adjustment to be made for everyone. It is exciting, fun, and challenging. You have to make new friends, get along with the neighbors, and make your new house into a home. All these things take time, and if you take into consideration the feelings of the siblings who don't live with you 24 hours a day, you may find it makes everyone a little happier. Have a good weekend and happy moving!
