The Blender of LifeAmerica was once called the melting pot. We were considered a blend of all cultures. The Europeans didn't think we could make it on our own because of this mixture of races and religions. They were wrong! Yes, we had and still have our problems. Yes, we had to set down rules/laws. There are times when we don't get along and times when punishment is harsh. Everyone has the opportunity to have a voice, though, if they choose to use it. They just must go about it in such a way that has been set down by the Constitution, a document written by the people for the people, in order to be heard. Despite this, we are still known as the greatest country in the world. Blended families are much like the story of America. It is the coming together of people of different backgrounds, people who have been raised in different ways, different households, different leaders (parents). Now they meet on neutral ground, hopefully, and have to learn to live together. Rules must be set down. Everyone should have a voice, but they must go about expressing their views in the way that is set down by the family at the beginning of their relationship. They may not love each other, but they must learn to respect each other. Yes, it is possible to bring people of totally different backgrounds together. It is possible to live in a peaceful and harmonious situation. It will take a lot of hard work to make this happen. There has to be a love there -- a love of country and the freedom that America promised in our country's case; a love of family and your parents in the blended family's case. We can make it happen.
