THOU SHALT NOT PLAY TRICKS ON YOUR GUIDES (OPTIONAL). Okay, I'm a prankster. In Ecuador I had the opportunity to fink out my tour guides. While they tried to tape in a rare rail, I stood on a screen-enclosed porch and called back. I apparently did it so well I got their attention, and they came closer. They would tape; I’d call back. They’d tape; I’d call. Eventually one of them got wise and spotted me. Trickery is the highest form of flattery, but don’t attempt to do this unless you know your guides fairly well, or you may be offered up to the anaconda gods. In my case, they really did enjoy the ruse and so spared my life. Finally, it IS a jungle out there. Trails are narrow, insects can be deadly, people can wander off and get lost. Watch out for each other. Share the water, share the insect repellent, and above all, share the birds.
