Frederick Reines - Co-Discoverer of the Neutrino
- co-discovery of the elementary particle neutrino
- discovery of neutrinos produced in the atmosphere
- co-discovery of neutrinos from a supernova - SN1987A (Irvine-Michigan-Brookhaven Collaboration)
- study of muons resulting from neutrino interactions
- observation of scattered electron antineutrinos
Reines never lost his love of singing. He performed publicly and was known to sing Gilbert and Sullivan tunes at parties and in the hallways of UCI. He retired in 1988. He was hospitalized when the announcement was received that he had won the 1995 Nobel Prize in Physics. Frederick Reines died August 26, 1998. Honors and Awards - Sigma Xi, 1944
