George Armstrong Custerfitting. Author's Note: Many accounts of Custer's defeat paint him as a gallant victim, which he wasn't. He attacked the Indians on their land and, as was often the case, broke a treaty between the Lakota and the United States government. Sitting Bull and his men were not apprehended after the Battle of the Little Bighorn. They escaped into Canada. Within the year, most of those who had taken part in the battle surrendered.
