to fight the war until Germany surrendered. In May 1943, the German Afrika Korps surrendered. In July 1943, a massive tank battle took place near the Russian city of Kursk. The Germans lost 1500 tanks and 70,000 men. Hitlers days were numbered. The German forces continued to retreat as the Allies pushed them back.

July 20, 1944, was a shock to Hitler. Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg placed a bomb in Hitler's headquarters. Hitler was only injured. After the assassination attempt, a literal blood bath occured. The German intelligentsia was completely wiped out. They had all plotted the attempt. Stauffenberg was chosen to plant the bomb because he was the only one who had access to Hitler.

On January 30, 1945, Hitler made his last radio broadcast. At the time he was living in a concrete bunker beneath Berlin. On March 19, he ordered all German industries destroyed. On April 12, President Roosevelt died. Hitler hoped the new president would withdraw the United States troops. There was no pause in the advance of Allied fighting.

On April 30, 1945, Hitler married Eva Braun, his longtime mistress. He ordered her to drink poison, then killed himself. He had left orders that his body was to be burned.

Adolph Hitler was one of the most evil men to draw breath. Thousands of people died to fulfill his dream of a perfect world.
