Awhile back, by way of casual remark, I commented on how it is this space, of late, has been attracting more and more attention. Ever humble I suggested, as way of explanation for this, it might have something to do with the writing talent of your humble scribe, but quickly dismissed that. Since making this particular remark I have been receiving, almost daily, e-mails from readers of this space. As of this writing approximately a tenth of said e-mails have taken me to task for even THINKING my writing talent could possibly have anything to do with why this space has, of late, been attracting more and more attention. The reason for this sudden change of events, writes one reader, is not because of yours truly, but because of what I write, and how it is I tend to write about movies and films not worth seeing. If you had any writing talent, this reader continued, you would be spending your time writing about films and movies worth seeing instead. Point noted and taken. Along with a major slice of humble pie. But let me point something out: IF there were enough films and movies worth seeing in a given year I would write about them and them alone. But. . . . . . Since there are NOT enough films and movies worth seeing in a given year I must do a difficult thing and expend energy and effort, time and talent writing about films and movies probably not worth seeing with the hopes of doing so I can, now and again, steer the dear and gentle (and greatly appreciated) reader of this space towards those few rare gems worth YOUR time and effort. Now. That said let me say this: This is not one of those times when I am able to steer you in a direction that would prove beneficial to your entertainment needs and wants. This is one of those times that may cause you to howl and scream and shake a fist at the computer screen and yell something like 'THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF YOUR REVIEW?' The point of this review, for whatever it may be worth, is to help you in avoiding certain films and movies. Films and movies the likes of "Showtime", starring Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy. Superficially "Showtime" is a cop buddy comedy movie. As such we know the formula by the numbers and inclined to ignore such efforts when it comes to putting down hard-earned coin for admission.
