Library CourierI've had a good morning if I can be on the road by 9:30. The first stop is in town at the university. I drop off a box and pick one up full of stuff for various places on my route. I sort them and go on my way. Some days I have several large boxes of course-material for extension classes. On my way out of town, I drop the mail off at the Post Office. After a while (time not given so I don't incriminate myself) on the road, I arrive at my first real branch run stop. This isn't in my library system, but it's where we connect with the KCMLIN. I bring a box into that library and pick one up, which I sort out when I get back to the van. The next stop has me unloading and loading again. I bring bags in from the main branch and pick up bags for the main branch and for other stops on the route. I have three more stops like this, before I arrive at the next out-of-system stop, where I deliver, pick up, and sort a box, like at the university and the KCMLIN stop. After this one, I've got two more stops before arriving at the main branch to unload. If you'd like to track my small route on a map, find Kansas City, Missouri, then go a bit east to Warrensburg. In Warrensburg are the Central Missouri State University, Trails Regional Library main branch, and Post Office stops. Go west and north to Oak Grove (part of the Mid-Continent system, and my KCMLIN link). From Oak Grove, go east to Odessa, northeast to Lexington, east to Waverly, south and west to Corder, and west to Higginsville, where Robertson Memorial Library is located. Robertson's not part of the Trails system. From Higginsville, head east again to Concordia, then south to Knob Noster, then west to Warrensburg to complete the route. If all goes well, we can have the van unloaded and parked and be home by 3:00 p.m. No day is as simple as I just described above. Most days I've got extra tasks to perform at different branches, like mowing grass, shovelling snow, changing lightbulbs, assembling furniture, moving stuff and more. Next time you see my white chevy van, give me a wave! I guess you can even wave at the KCMLIN drivers too. (I've only
