Chapter 2: Yoga of Knowledge - Verse 62, 63 & 64
The cause of anger and lust is attachment.
Verse 62:
"dhyayato visayan pumsah
sangas tesupajayate
sangat sanjayate kamah
kamat krodho 'bhijayate"
(62) When a person develops attachment for objects of pleasure, from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises.
Explanation: Man can easily stray away from the path of enlightenment. When attachment to objects of pleasure increases, so does lust. The result of lust is anger.
One who is not Krishna conscious is subjected to material desires while contemplating the objects of senses.
Verse 63:
"krodhad bhavati sammohah
sammohat smrti-vibhramah
smrti-bhramsad buddhi-naso
buddhi-nasat pranasyati"
(63) Anger causes delusion. Delusion causes confusion of mind. When mind is confused, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost, one falls down again into the material world.
Explanation: Those who are without knowledge of Krishna consciousness may try to avoid material objects, and although they desire liberation from material bondage, they do not attain to the perfect stage of renunciation. On the other hand, a person in Krishna consciousness knows how to use everything in the service of the Lord; therefore he does not become a victim of material consciousness.
When mind is confused and intelligence is lost man falls into the whirlpool of material world.
Verse 70:
"apuryamanam acala-pratistham
samudram apah pravisanti yadvat
tadvat kama yam pravisanti sarve
sa santim apnoti na kama-kami"
(70) A person who is not disturbed by the incessant flow of desires--that enter like rivers into the ocean which is ever being filled but is always still--can alone achieve peace. Not the man who strives to satisfy such desires.
Explanation:
Numerous rivers enter the ocean, yet the ocean stays still. Similarly, a person who is not disturbed by desires and various emotions afflicting the material life can achieve peace.
A man who strives to satisfy his desires alone, doesn't achieve peace.
