Arjuna learns about the Self from the Lord.

Verse 10:

"tam uvaca hrsikesah prahasann iva bharata senayor ubhayor madhye visidantam, idam vacah"

(10)Lord Krishna, standing midst the armies, spoke the following words to the grieving Arjuna.
Explanation: Lord Krishna knew that Arjuna's delusion would come to an end only with the Knowledge of the Real Self and that war was an ordined duty; when freed from the attachment of fruits is a means for Self Knowledge.

Verse 11:

"sri-bhagavan uvaca asocyan anvasocas tvam prajna-vadams ca bhasase gatasun agatasums ca nanusocanti panditah"

(11) The Lord said: You grieve for those who should not be grieved for - yet you speak words of wisdom. The wise grieve neither for the dead nor for the living.
Explanation: Arjuna initially talks about right, wrong, rituals and traditions.
Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that though he talks about right and wrong, he lacks in real knowledge himself. A truly enlightened person will neither grieve for dead nor living. He wouldn't fell sorrow for a material and perishable body. He would have realized the TRUE SELF.

Verse 12:

"na tv evaham jatu nasam na tvam neme janadhipah na caiva na bhavisyamah sarve vayam atah param "

(12)There never was a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor any of these kings of men. Nor will there be any time in the future when all of us shall cease to be.
Explanation: Lord Krishna tells Arjuna about the true nature of the self. He Himself, Arjuna, and all the kings who are assembled on the battlefield, are eternally individual beings and that the Lord is eternally the maintainer of the individual living entities both in their conditioned as well as in their liberated situations. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is the supreme individual person, and Arjuna, the Lord's eternal associate, and all the kings assembled there are individual, eternal persons.
Their individuality existed in the past, and their individuality will continue in the future without interruption. Therefore, there is no cause for lamentation for anyone.

Lord Krishna reveals the true nature of Self to Arjuna.
