Chapter 1: Arjuna's Sorrow - Verse 23,24 & 25
Arjuna says the following to Lord Krishna -
Verse 23:
"yotsyamanan avekse 'ham
ya ete 'tra samagatah
dhartarastrasya durbuddher
yuddhe priya-cikirsavah"
(23)Let me have a look at those who have assembled here and want to accomplish in this war, what is dear to the evil-minded son of Dhrtarastra.
Explanation: Duryodhana, the evil minded son of Dhrtarastra wanted to defeat the Pandavas in the battlefield.
Arjuna wanted to have a look at the Kauravas army, which included their gurus and other valiant warriors, who were ready
to fight the battle for Duryodhana.
Verse 24:
"sanjaya uvaca
evam ukto hrsikeso
gudakesena bharata
senayor ubhayor madhye
sthapayitva rathottamam"
(24) Sanjaya said:
Oh descendant of Bharata! After being addressed by Arjuna thus, Lord Krishna drew up the magnificient chariot in the midst of the armies.
Explanation: Sanjaya narrates to the blind king the sequence of events in the battle ground.
Sanjaya informs Dhrtarastra that after being asked by Arjuna, Lord Krishna moves the chariot to the center of the battle field, where Arjuna could take a closer look at his cousins, the Kauravas.
Verse 25:
"bhisma-drona-pramukhatah
sarvesam ca mahi-ksitam
uvaca partha pasyaitan
samavetan kurun iti
"
(25) In the presence of Bhisma, Drona and all other kings in the Kaurava camp, Lord Krishna said to Arjuna, "Oh Arjuna! Behold these assembled Kauravas."
Explanation:
Bhisma was the oldest and most respected man among the cousins, Kauravas and Pandavas. Drona was their teacher. Lord Krishna asks Arjuna to behold the Kauravas, who had assmebled in the battlefield for war.
Lord Krishna places the chariot in between the two armies as requested by Arjuna.
